Chotoku-ji Temple

Chotoku-ji Temple has a long history, dating back to Japan's Edo period (1603-1868). It is said that Benjin, the parent of the legendary Buddhist warrior-monk Benkei, was enshrined here. It is also where the funeral of Akutagawa Prize-winning Shingu-born author, Kenji Nakagami, was held. It offers excellent access to nearby shrines ― just a 10-minute walk to Kumano Hayatama Taisha Grand Shrine, and 5 minutes to Kamikura-jinja Shrine.
