A museum that conveys the history of Shingu

A museum located within the grounds of Asuka-jinja Shrine. There is a permanent exhibition of Shingu history, with objects of worship excavated from Mt. Horaisan, Edo period drawings of the castle town, ancient documents and industrial materials on display.

The ruins of pit-style housing from the Yayoi period were excavated from the premises of Asuka-jinja Shrine, further highlighting the spiritual importance this area had in the past.

Mishotai (Daiitokumyo-o)

Within Buddhist belief, this is one of the Buddhist images unique to the Esoteric Buddha "Myo-o".  This is a statue of the guardian of the West, with its 4 remaining counterparts guarding the other directions of East, North, South and the center. 

1st floor exhibition room

Excavated objects from the Yayoi to Kofun periods can be found here.

A pit-house from the Yayoi Period

In front of the museum, an outline of a pit-house found within the grounds of Asuka-jinja Shrine can be seen.

2nd floor exhibition room

The 2nd floor exhibits are mainly about the history of lumber and lumber processing industry that helped accelerate the modernization of Shingu City.
