A museum that conveys the long history of Shingu

This is a museum located on the grounds of Asuka-jinja Shrine. There is a permanent exhibition of Shingu history here, with objects of worship excavated from Mt. Horaisan, Edo period (1603-1868) illustrations of the castle town, ancient documents and industrial documents on display.

In front of the museum are remnants of pit-style housing from the Yayoi period (300BC - 300AD) excavated from the premises of Asuka-jinja Shrine, further highlighting the spiritual importance this area had in the past.

Mishotai (Daiitokumyo-o)

Within Buddhist belief, this is one of the Buddhist images unique to the Esoteric Buddha "Myo-o".  This is a statue of the guardian of the West, with its 4 remaining counterparts guarding the other directions of East, North, South and the center. 

1st Floor Exhibition Room

Valuable historical materials, such as excavated objects from the Yayoi (300BC - 300AD) and Kofun (300 - 538) periods, can be found here.

A Pit-House from the Yayoi Period

In front of the museum, the remains of a pit-house excavated from within the grounds of Asuka-jinja Shrine can be seen.

2nd Floor Exhibition Room

The 2nd floor exhibits are mainly about the history of the lumber and lumber processing industries that helped support the modernization of Shingu City.
